The first match of 2020 proved to be lucky for Virat Kohli who managed to become the fastest player to reach 1000 runs in T20I cricket as captain. Overall, he is the sixth player to achieve this feat.
Before the three-match series against Sri Lanka began, Kohli required 25 runs for reaching the milestone. The ace player, who achieved this feat in his 30th innings as a skipper, is only the second Indian player (after Dhoni) to have done this!
By the end of 2019, Kohli and Sharma both shared the top position with 2633 runs each. Kohli required just 1 run to overtake Sharma and become the player with most runs in T20I cricket.
Team India has a 1-0 lead after outplaying Sri Lanka by 7 wickets in the second T20I. The final match in the series will take place on 10th January (Friday).
