Ace wicketkeeper-batsman from Bangladesh, Mushfiqur Rahim did not get an Indian Premier League contract. In fact, it comes as a surprise that this star cricketer is yet to make his IPL debut.
Rahim, who has been among the batting mainstays for his country for more than 10 years has performed extremely well in international cricket.
Owing to previous experiences, the former Bangladesh skipper was not planning on registering his name in the auction for IPL 2020. However, he went ahead and registered his name on the franchises’ request.
The initial list shortlisted by IPL had 971 players. The franchises requested 24 more names (including Mushfiqur Rahim, Dan Christian, Adam Zampa, Kesrick Williams and Will Jacks) to be put in the auction.
Although surprised, Mushfiqur is not really disheartened or disappointed after not landing an IPL deal.
The player said “To be honest I knew that maybe they would not pick me so there is no point in registering for it [IPL]. But after they requested my name to be in the final list then I thought there might be a chance.”
“But it did not happen and it is not actually in my hand. What is in my hand is that every one of us here in Bangladesh can continue to perform consistently. This does not really bother me. There is no bigger pride than playing for your country,” he added.
