Former Sri Lankan Captain Returns To The T20 Squad After Two Years

The three-match T20 series between India and Sri Lanka will commence on 5th January. While team India will face Sri Lanka as a part of the preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup, the Sri Lankan team will take on India with hopes of winning the first T20 series against the team.

However, there is one player for whom this new year proved to be very lucky! We are talking about none other than the former Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews. Mathews is returning to the Sri Lankan T20 team after almost two years.

The ace player was not a part of the team since a long time owing to his injury. However, he is part of the squad once again as the team gears up for the T20 World Cup 2020.

Mathews has scored more than a thousand runs in just 72 T20 matches and has an average of 27. He has also scored 5 half-centuries, during this period.

His average in the nine matches he played against India is 29. However, Mathew has not really achieved any outstanding feat after 2016.

Even though Mathews was not a part of the T20 team for the last two years, he remained an active member of the Test and ODI teams.

Nuwan Pradeep, who was injured during practice, is no longer a part of the squad now. Kasun Rajitha has been given a place in the team instead of him.

The Sri Lanka team is being led by Lasith Malinga.
