The national capital is witnessing huge traffic jams at several locations. In an attempt to curb a planned protest against the CAA, the Delhi police have imposed traffic restrictions and barricaded roads. The worst effect of this was seen at the Delhi-Gurgoan border.
Large gatherings near Red Fort have also been banned by the police. According to reports that came in earlier, a number of protesters have been detained already.
As per the police, every car entering the Capital is being checked in order to make sure that those who are willing to join the protest called by the Left parties and other groups are not able to sneak in.
The restrictions had been imposed even as no signs of backing down were shown by the protestors even though the police said it will not allow the protest. Earlier, in a Tweet, the Delhi police had said, “Permission has not been granted for the protest march to be held by the communist party from Mandi House to Jantar Mantar over The Citizenship Amendment Act and NRC at 12 pm today.”
The police informed that the Mathura Road-Kalindi Kunj route was closed for traffic movement. The commuters coming in from Noida were asked to enter the capital via DND Flyway or Akshardham road.
The movement of Delhi Metro was also hindered. The entry and exit gates of Jasola Vihar, Jamia Milia Islamia, Pragati Maidan, Khan Market, Udyog Bhavan, Munrika, ITO, Patel Chowk, Shaheen Bagh, and Lok Kalyan Marg stations were shut by the authorities.
Travellers have been advised by various airlines to leave for the Indira Gandhi International Airport well in advance to reach in time for their flight.
