7 Effective Tips To Leave A Good ‘First Impression’

The first impression can make a lasting impact! Hence it is of utmost importance that you make sure you give the best first impression!

Surprisingly, the first impression has little to do with what kind of person you are. It’s mostly about gestures, sings, and mimics you use to communicate with someone.

Internationally recognized communications expert  Leil Lowndes can give you some useful advice to help you make your first impression a good one.

1. Hold that smile for a while

Leil Lowndes tells you a way to leave a better impression and make your smile appear more sincere! The trick is to look at someone’s face and then wait for a few seconds before you give them a smile.

2. Avoid long eye contacts

According to Lowndes, when a man makes eye contact with another man for too long, it might be interpreted as aggression. She favors gradually extending the time of visual contact from the beginning of meeting a person. Apply the 60/40 rule here-maintain eye contact for about 60 percent of the time. This advice also works for relations between women and men.

3. Take note of your posture

Lowndes also believes that standing with perfect posture can help you appear confident and leave the best impression. A perfect example of this is champion athletes and political leaders.

4. Make sure you look ‘interested’

To make a great first impression, you need to look interested in the other person. This can be done with the help of certain non-verbal cues including smiling or turning towards them with your entire body. Pay attention to what the person is saying.

5. Don’t use anxious gestures

A lot of resources say that anxious or fussy hand gestures may give the impression that you are hiding something. In order to appear confident and sincere, avoid actions like touching your neck, face, hair or ears.

6. Practice empathy

Other than using certain non-verbal cues, you can also show your interest in someone by mimicking their behaviour and reacting accordingly. This will make you seem like a caring and trustworthy person. “When you act as though you like someone, you start to really like them, ” says Lowndes.

7. Visualize the meeting before it happens

If you have the time, rehearse for the meeting before it actually happens. Visualize the meeting and practice while standing in front of a mirror. Make sure your smile and posture display confidence. According to the expert, visualization will help get you better results.
