Due to the massive outbreak of COVID-19, our government of India started an initiative of the PM Cares Fund, where people from throughout India are invited to make contributions. People from all over India whether affluent, medium, or poor participated in a huge number and donated as much as they could to help the people fighting against COVID-19. - Apart from all this, Rs 4,308.3 crore was donated by government agencies and staff, out of which Rs 438.8 crore was deducted as one-day’s salary of government employees.
- Rs 5,369.6 crore has been donated by private companies, industry bodies, and social organizations as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds.
- The relief fund is also open to foreign funding and Rs 22 crore has been pledged by two foreign companies, Fairfax Financial Holdings and Russia’s state-owned defense exports company, Rosoboronexport.
- The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) spent Rs 3,009.6 crore on masks, cooked meals, dry ration, PPE, sanitizers, medical equipment and supplies, and medical facilities.
According to an analysis by IndiaSpend, Rs 9,677.9 crore ($1.27 billion) has been donated to the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations (PM CARES) fund for COVID-19 relief since March 28, 2020. An additional Rs 2,098.2 crore has been pledged to the relief fund and Rs 7,855 crore has also been donated from several government sources, the report mentioned.
