Now let’s see what is IVF. You must have also seen hoardings etc. along the roads for childless couples. It is claimed that the child will be born through IVF. But what is this IVF? Is there a magic wand that gives birth to children?

Let us understand in detail.

IVF stands for – In Vitro Fertilization. That is artificial insemination. Now you might be curious about what is In Vitro. What does it mean? Let us read that out further.

The word is derived from the Latin language. ‘Vitro’ in Latin means glass. So, In vitro means fertilization which occurs within the glass.

In the event of not being able to conceive or according to your need, the woman can go for IVF.  The sperm of the male and the egg of the female are milled at the right temperature and made into a glass tube or saucer. The embryo begins to form on the union. This foetus is then placed in the woman’s uterus. So that it can grow in a natural way in the coming time.

Now some legitimate questions will be of course coming in your mind. Let’s highlight those:-

1) Who needs In-Vitro fertilization?

Generally, those couples who are unable to have children naturally. There could be many reasons such as There is a problem in the female’s uterus, the sperm count of the man is reduced or the egg of the woman is weak. Bro, hormones are not close to anyone.

2) If the uterus is weak then how will she be able to raise her baby even after In-Vitro fertilization?

If there is a problem in the woman’s uterus, and she is unable to carry the child, then the help of a surrogate is taken. A surrogate is a woman who grows a foetus made of sperm and egg from another couple, gives birth to it. There has been a huge discussion in Parliament on who this woman can be.

3) If Papa’s sperm and Mama’s egg is weak, then how will the baby occur?

If the male’s sperm is weak, or if he has a genetic disease that the child is likely to develop later, then the sperm of someone else is taken (have you seen ‘Vicky Donor’?). The embryo is then made by fertilization. Similarly, if a woman’s egg is weak, then another woman’s egg can be taken.

4) If everything is healthy, but if there is a jam on the way?

It is possible that there is a blockage in the fallopian tubes of the woman. That is the tube in which fertilization occurs. Due to this, the mixing of eggs and sperm is not happening. So the baby is placed directly in the uterus from the IVF.

5) Is there any age to produce a baby with IVF?

Eggs begin to weaken after an age. But many women who want to keep the option of having a child open later, they get their eggs freeze. That is, get the egg out of the body and store it. Freezing them keeps their eggs safe for longer, and later they can use them when they need to. Doctors believe that till the age of 35, there are more chances of a healthy pregnancy.

6) What is the success rate of IVF?

Till date, more than 8 million children have been born through IVF all over the world.

According to the report of Pain Medicine, the success rate of IVF and other procedures used along with it in women under 35 years is 21.3 percent. These are the number of cases in which women used their eggs.

In 2015, the IVF market of India is more than about 43 billion dollars or more than 30 crores rupees.

Fun Fact:-
